About American Marine

American Marine is located on Jericho Turnpike in Commack, Long Island, New York. We are just west of the Sunken Meadow (Sagtikos) Parkway and are easily accessed by both the parkway and the Long Island Expressway. Our central location provides convenience for both the north and south shores of Long Island.

Since 1973, American Marine has provided quality service to Long Island’s boating community. Our focus on service and repair of trailerable boats has enabled us to grow and prosper throughout the past 35+ years. Richard Wachter, a mechanical engineer, recognized the need for dependable service for local boaters. Together with his son, Chris, they have developed a business dedicated to honesty and reliability and have garnered numerous awards in recognition of their work. Richard retired to North Carolina in 1989 and Chris expanded the business with new boat sales.

American Marine has become one of the largest dealers of Key West Boats. In 2003 Chris’ son, Keith, joined the firm and like his father, started at the bottom (literally). Keith has since become Chris’ partner and an in disposable part of the organization. Keith wears many hats and it’s not unusual for him to switch from delivering a service boat to completing a new sale without skipping a beat. All of our technicians receive the latest factory training and take great pride in their work.

Our great staff has allowed Chris to spend more time with his beautiful wife of 28 years, Camille. Together, they also have a daughter Janine, who is a marine engineer serving on merchant vessels throughout the world.

As you can see, this family and this third generation business were truly born of the sea, dedicated to providing the best possible service and supplying the best available product so that you can enjoy a safe boating experience.
