American Marine services both together, so oil, gear lube, and the moving parts in between are looked after in a single visit, using manufacturer recommended fluids for your specific drive.

Power steering fluid checked and topped off on drives equipped with hydraulic steering, so steering stays responsive.

An I/O or stern drive has its own gear lube schedule separate from the engine, and skipping it does not just affect the engine, it affects the drive too.
Water in the gear lube is a warning sign
Milky or discolored gear lube usually means water has found its way past a seal, something far cheaper to catch during a scheduled oil change than after the drive fails.
